My friend Jackie had twin granddaughters born on June 11. Aaaaawww, the babies are precious, and I just had to try my nascent knitting skills on some pink booties. I found an easy pattern from the blog Small + Friendly at http://www.smallfriendly.com/small-friendly/2014/05/bitty-baby-booties-.html. I knew how to do the stitches, and it made an easy T-shape that only required some simple whip stitches to complete. I found some cute buttons to embellish the finished booties.
I made two booties that were too poorly done to use as gifts, and I won’t tell you how many times I resorted to frogging (knit-speak for rip-it, rip-it, rip-it). Though I finally got four T shapes of somewhat similar size, I failed completely when it came to finishing the booties. You can’t see the flaws on the solid pink ones, but (CRAP ALERT!) they really stand out on the variegated booties.
My deadline for gifting was approaching, and I didn’t have the time or motivation to try to improve on another pair. Besides, hand-made gifts are special, right? So I gave them to Jackie but with a caveat. My directions to her were to put the booties on the twins, take a photo, send the picture to me, and then throw the damn booties away!
