My fall wreath on the side door of my house was looking rather bedraggled. I wanted a quick and easy replacement, and I’d seen a similar “Boo” hanging somewhere before. I bought the 3 letters at Hobby Lobby and a FolkArt paint called Jack-o-Lantern.
My first order of business was to paint the letters orange. CRAP ALERT: I bought masonite letters and the edges don’t look great, but the issue doesn’t show up unless you’re looking closely. Shoulda sanded!
After painting two coats of orange and allowing the letters to dry, I used black paint and a pencil top (the eraser end) to make my polka-dots. Cute! Because I was concerned about the effects of rain on the masonite, I applied a layer of outdoor ModPodge. I did nothing to the back of the letters, figuring in this case it’s okay to be lazy since the backs will never show.
I even used a little spider to embellish the bottom ‘O.’ Once that was complete, I linked each letter with black ribbon, made a bow for the top, and hung it out for the world to admire. 🙂
