More Mardi Gras art went on at my house last week. As I often do, I’m changing out some of my seasonal art for more crapsmanship of my own. This one was easy. I first used purple and gold Distress inks to color an 11×14″ piece of mixed media paper. I sprayed it with water to meld the colors and then allowed it to dry.
Next, I pounced green and yellow acrylic paint over some stencils to fill the page with Mardi Gras colors.
Finally, I used a stencil to add a gold embellishment. While I was at it, I did a smaller one with a fleur-de-lis.
No one will ever accuse me of being an artist, but I do like having a little seasonal color. Not bad for an amateur!
Being a Louisiana girl, I wanted to switch out my dining room centerpiece to a Mardi Gras-themed floral arrangement. I already had the gold pot, and Hobby Lobby was having a sale on floral greenery.
Twenty dollars later, I had a green silk plant, some yellow and purple flowers, and a few Mardi-Gras-colored stems. With a piece of syrofoam in the bottom of the pot, wire cutters to disassemble all the plants and flowers, and 15 minutes of work, I had this beauty.
The photos aren’t flattering, but the centerpiece looks great in my dining room!
I followed the directions on the Shrinky Dink package to bake and shrink each earring. I used a metal one-cup measuring to flatten each one down once it came out of the oven. To finish, I added a jump ring and earring hook to each, and paired the earrings up into matching sets.
