Bowwow Bonbons

Standard

I always get Christmas gifts for my granddogs, but this year I have avoided unnecessary shopping due to Covid-19. So, poor dogs, this year they get my cooking. This recipe was given to me by Dan the Man, who has made these before, complete with rolling out the dough and cutting them into bone shapes. My dough was too wet to roll out, so I settled for scooping them onto parchment-lined cookie sheets. They don’t have the same uniformity or iconic shape as Dan’s, but by naming them Bowwow Bonbons, I think they’re just right! Here’s the recipe.

PEANUT BUTTER DOG BISCUITS

1-1/2 cups water

1/2 cup vegetable oil

2 eggs

6 Tbsp. peanut butter

2 tsp. vanilla

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup oatmeal

1 cup cornmeal

Blend wet ingredients together. Whisk dry ingredients together and mix into wet mixture. (I used a stand mixer for ease, but a hand mixer will work, too.) Scoop onto parchment-lined cookie sheets and bake at 400 degrees until golden.

The original recipe says to turn off the oven and leave the cookies in there so they can thoroughly dry and harden. I made a double batch and had way too many cookies to have oven room for them to dry. So my cookies ended up soft and easy-to-chew (presumably — I didn’t try them!). I recommend that they stay refrigerated.
